Dr. Martin is a biological anthropologist who combines field, laboratory, and biodemographic methods to study how socioecological and life-course exposures shape health and aging in diverse global populations. She received my PhD in Integrative Anthropological Sciences from the Unviersity of California Santa Barbara in 2015 and completed postdoctoral training at Yale University before joining UW as an Assistant Professor in 2018. Much of her work has been conducted through two international projects focused on Indigenous community health and well-being: the Tsimane Health and Life History Project (Affiliate, Beni Department, Bolivia), and the Chaco Area Reproductive Ecology (CARE) program in rural Formosa, Argentina, which she Co-Directs. As Co-PI of the UW CSDE Biodemography Lab, she collaborate on studies of health and aging in U.S. and global populations (e.g. the Vietnam Health and Aging Study) lending expertise on the collection, analysis, and interpretation of reproductive, cardiometabolic, immune, and other health and aging biomarkers across the life course. My combined research affiliations generate substantial biomarker and survey data relevant to health and aging research, and provide active lab, field, and data science opportunities for trainees at multiple career stages.
