Roles

Dr. Galvan is a Presidential Professor of Biochemistry and Physiology and Donald W. Reynolds Endowed Chair of Aging Research, serves as Director of the NIA P30 Oklahoma Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging and Co-Director of the NIGMS P20 Geroscience Center of Biomedical Research Excellence, and as Co-Director of the Center for Geroscience and Healthy Brain Aging at the University of Oklahoma Harold Hamm Campus College of Medicine. Dr. Galvan’s research focuses on the molecular and biochemical mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other age-associated dementias. She has generated models of AD to identify novel mechanisms of neurodegeneration, and pioneered the study of mechanisms that link brain aging to AD and related dementias. Her laboratory provided the first evidence implicating a molecular regulator of aging in the pathogenesis of AD, as well as the first description of pathogenic tau in brain microvasculature of AD and other tauopathies. Dr. Galvan is past President of the American Aging Association and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Geroscience, the Journal of the American Aging Association.
