Mitochondrial function and healthspan
Peter Rabinovitch has served on the faculty of the Department of Lab Medicine and Pathology since 1983. He has been an active investigator in the biology of aging throughout his career, is the author of over 290 peer-reviewed publications, and is the founding director of the UW Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging. He has received the American Aging Association’s Denham Harman Lifetime Achievement in Research Award and is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Over the past 8 years his research has had a special focus on healthspan and longevity extension by interventions that enhance mitochondrial function. This work is supported by a longstanding NIA Program Project award for which he is PI. His lab has a special focus on cardiac healthspan and is investigating interventions that can reverse cardiac dysfunction in old mice.
